Mountaineers Finish 1-3 in Hanover Tournament

Game 1
The Berea College Volleyball team traveled to Hanover College to play in 4 matchups in the Hanover Tournament. The Mountaineers were unable to defeat Hanover Panthers in the opening match and fell 3-1. (17-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-17. 13-15.)
 
The Mountaineers had a rough start in the first two sets, but then came out the third and fourth sets stronger than what they started. The fifth set was close, but the Mountaineers still fell short a couple of points. Sophomore Deanna De La Torre led the team with 12 kills and 6 aces. Sophomore Ilaisa'ane Leetham had 18 assists to help with our offense and three blocks.

Game 2
The Mountaineers were able to win their second match of the first night in the Hanover Tournament vs. Wilmington (OH). The matches were very close in the beginning, but the Mountaineers were able to push through their tiredness from the previous match they had just played. They hold a victory over the Wilmington Quakers. (22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-10, 15-5)
Senior Carolina Robles led the team with 12 kills and freshman Idymel Ayala Rivera helped the offense out majorly ending the game with 27 assists. The Mountaineers led in assists, digs, blocks, and kills. This made a difference in the last three sets of the game.

Game 3
The Mountaineers on day 2 of the Hanover Tournament faced the Franklin College Grizzlies (5-6). After losing the first two sets (25-20, 25-20), the Berea Mountaineers where able to come back and win the next two sets (25-19, 25-23) taking the Grizzlies to a 5th set. However, ultimately the Mountaineers lost the final set 15-12.
 
The Mountaineers where able to dominate the Grizzlies earning 12 blocks over 3 for the Grizzlies. Sophomore Outside Hitter, Deanna De la Torre #3, was a key in player in the game earning 18 kills, 15 digs, 2 blocks and 4 blocks. Senior Outside Hitter, Carolina Robles was also a leader in the Mountaineers offense with 17 kills. Senior Libero, Fabiana De Jesús, lead the team with 25 digs.
 
Game 4
Once again, the Berea College Mountaineers showed that they do not let up easily. After losing the first two sets (25-14, 25-18) they were able to win the next two (25-21, 25-21) taking the Trine University Thunders to a 5-set battle. The Mountaineers were not able to beat the Thunders, losing the 5th set (15-12).
           
The Mountaineers were led by sophomore Deanna De la Torre with 18 kills, senior Carolina Robles with 9 kills, Senior Fabiana De Jesús with 21 digs, and freshman Idymel Ayala Rivera with 18 assists.
 
 The Mountaineers now stand at a (6-6) record. The volleyball team will be back in action this Tuesday, September 21st, where they will travel to Franklin College in Indiana to face the Grizzlies once again.
