Men’s Basketball Drops Season Finale Against Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Shooting woes doomed the Berea College men's basketball team as they fell 90-50 to Maryville College in the last game of their season.

The Mountaineers finish the 2021-22 campaign with a 6-17 overall record and 2-10 in USA South Conference play. The Scots improve to 19-2 and 9-1 in conference action.

Freshman guard Kevion Hudson led the Mountaineers in scoring with 14 points. Junior guard Isaac Caudill chipped in 10 points along with five rebounds. Berea struggled shooting the ball only managing to convert 16 of their 62 total shot attempts.

Caudill began the scoring with a pull-up jump shot before Maryville knocked down a three-pointer and finished a fastbreak dunk to lead 5-2. A shot from beyond the arc from freshman guard Jarel Montgomery quickly notched the contest with 17:07 left in the half.

The Mountaineers stayed within striking distance for the early part of the first frame, trailing by no more than six points. However, the Scots took a double-digit lead with 12:40 left in the half and never looked back as they took a 48-22 lead into halftime. The Scots first-half three-point shooting provided a huge boost as they hit nine shots from the three-point line.

The second frame was much like the first as the Mountaineers continued to struggle to put the ball in the basket, only converting nine of their 29 shot attempts. This shooting struggle, in addition to the Scots hot shooting, proved to be too much as Maryville outscored Berea 42-28 in the second half to take a 90-50 win over Berea.
