LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Berea College men's basketball team suffered their second consecutive loss, falling 93-62 to Covenant (Ga.) on Monday evening.
With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 6-14 overall and 2-7 in USA South Conference play, while the Scots improve to 12-6 and 7-2 in conference action.
Freshman
Jarel Montgomery led the Mountaineer's scoring effort with 12 points on the evening while shooting five-of-six overall. Junior guard
Isaac Caudill totaled 10 points and six rebounds and freshman guard
Kevion Hudson fell short of a double-double, collecting eight rebounds and 10 points.
Berea battled early as they hit four of their first six shots to trail 14-10 with 15:04 left in the half. Caudill was active early as he knocked down consecutive shots from beyond the arc to pull the Mountaineers closer. The Scots responded with three consecutive made shots, two of which were three-pointers, to give themselves a double-digit advantage. The Mountaineers were able to pull to within under 10 points for a moment, but Covenant would take a 48-31 lead into halftime.
The momentum was completely in the favor of the home team in the second half, as they outscored Berea 45-31 in the second stanza. The closest the Mountaineers were able to get was 17 points as the Scots shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) en route to a 93-61 win over Berea.
The Berea College men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday as they host Huntingdon College (Ala.). Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Seabury Center.
