The Berea College Volleyball team traveled to Raleigh, N.C. to play in the William Peace/ Meredith Tournament. The Mountaineers defeated Pfeiffer University in three straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-20) earning their first win of the season.

The Mountaineers were led by sophomore
Idymel Ayala Rivera with 28 assists, Junior
Deanna De La Torre with 12 kills and 10 digs, followed by senior
Carolina Robles with 9 kills and 12 digs, and senior Fabiana De Jesús with 12 digs.

Game 2

The Mountaineers lost their second game of the William Peace/ Meredith Tournament against the home team William Peace University in a 4-set match (25-22, 14-25, 18-25, 14-25). They were able to win the first set but were held back by the Pacers offense which led the match with 55 kills, 22 kills more than the Mountaineers.

Junior
Julie Santana led the team in kills with 10 kills followed by De La Torre with 7 kills and Robles with 7 kills. Ayala Rivera had 15 assists to help the Mountaineer offense. Libero De Jesús, led the team in digs with 13.

Game 3

On day 2 of the William Peace/ Meredith Tournament, the Mountaineers were able to add two more wins to their record. After winning the first set, but losing the second set to Brevard College (25-16, 22-25), the Berea Mountaineers were able to come back and win the next two sets (25-17, 25-12) earning them their second victory of the season.

Ayala Rivera helped the offense of the Mountaineers with 43 assists. Robles and junior
Deanna De La Torre both ended the game with 13 kills followed by junior
Brenda Davila with 11 kills. De Jesús led the team with 16 digs and 6 aces followed by Ayala Rivera with 12 digs.

Game 4
Â
The Berea College Mountaineers showed that they do not lead up easily on their last game of the tournament. After losing the first two sets (18-25, 26-28) they were able to win the next two (25-19, 25-23) taking the Meredith College Avenging Angels to a 5-set battle. The Mountaineers were able to dominate the Avenging Angels, winning the 5th set (15-10).

The Mountaineers offense was led by Robles with 19 kills and De La Torre with 17 kills. The sophomore setter, Ayala Rivera, had an incredible match with 47 assists. De Jesús led the team in digs with 19 digs followed by junior
Amanda Castro Diaz with 14 digs.

The Mountaineers now stand at a (3-4) record. The volleyball team will be back in action next Friday, September 16th, where they will travel to Hanover, Ind. to play the Hanover Invitational.
