BEREA, Ky. -The Berea College men's basketball team played Huntingdon College Saturday afternoon where the Mountaineers earned an 81-72 win over their conference foe.

Berea is now 4-5 at home and 2-2 in the Collegiate Conference of the South and 10-7 overall this season.

Sophomore
Trey Minter guided the way for the Mountaineers with 23 points (8-17 overall, 6-8 FT), four rebounds and four steals. Sophomore
Marquis Mackey scored a game-high 19 points and shot 57 percent from the field. Senior
Isaac Caudill put up 12 points (3-3 FT) and grabbed eight boards.

The Mountaineers only shot 38 percent from the field compared to the Hawks' 43 percent, but their aggressive defensive forced Huntingdon to turn the ball over 24 times. Berea scored 24 points off those 24 turnovers to help them take the win.

Berea started the game with a 6-0 run, and it wasn't until five minutes into the game Huntingdon got onto the board by Marcus Townsend's two free-throws. To end the first half, Caudill finished a strong layup to help his team take advantage of the Hawks allowing Berea to lead Huntingdon 30-28. Austin Jeremy, for the Hawks, led the team with 13 points (4-8 overall) and grabbed five rebounds. Max Gardner also played a huge role for the Hawks by shooting an impressive 85 percent from the field with 12 points and also snatching five boards.

 In the second half, the Mountaineers outscored the Hawks 21-14. Huntingdon's fouling in the half allowed the Mountaineers to shoot 16-23 from the charity stripe which helped them finish off the game.
Up next, the Mountaineers will play Piedmont University at the Seabury Center (January 15th). Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
