BEREA, Ky. - The Berea College men's soccer team squared off against Covenant College Saturday afternoon for the CCS regular season championship.
The visiting Scots grabbed the early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 32nd minute. The match remained 1-0 coming out of half and, after a Berea red card left the Mountaineers down a man for the remainder of the game, the Berea attack was held in check by Covenant's defense. The Mountaineers managed to put up eight shots, two of which were on target but blocked by Covenant keeper Eli Honeycutt. Berea's
Eris Acosta had seven saves on 20 Scot shots.

Parity in the league had the Mountaineers enter the day with a chance to win the conference or go into the tournament as the #5 seed. Berea (6-10-1, 3-3 CCS) finished in a three-way tie for 3rd place in the CCS and earned the opportunity to host LaGrange in the quarterfinal round next Wednesday. The Mountaineers and Panthers met earlier this season with Berea capturing the 3-1 win on October 7. Kick-off for the quarterfinal match is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the Sports Complex.
