Ayala Rivera Leads Women's Volleyball to Another Win

BEREA, Ky. - The Berea College women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to six straight matches with a 3-1 win over Spalding University Tuesday night in the Seabury Center.

The Mountaineers took the match on the strength of a dominant defense and efficient offense. After the visiting Golden Eagles took the first set (25-19), it was all Mountaineers from that point on with set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-18.  The Mountaineers were led by Julie Santana (13 kills), Brenda Davila (5 blocks), and Amelie Cora (17 digs).  Davila, Hannah Martin and Brianna Negron Torres all had two aces each.  Junior Idymel Ayala Rivera was spectacular, recording 30 assists on the night and amassing her 2,000th career assist.

The volleyball team will conclude the conference regular season this weekend with two critical matches against host Huntingdon College and Piedmont University.  Berea is currently tied for second in the CCS with Piedmont and Huntingdon is ranked 5th.
