Men's Basketball has Exciting Second Half Comeback

Box Score Berea, KY. - Mountaineer's pull out a thrilling come from behind win in front of the home crowd to defeat Spalding University 81-80.

Berea College Men's Basketball looked to cap off an amazing Homecoming weekend by playing Spalding University. The Mountaineer's started off cold being down 10-0 five minutes into the game until Bryce Riley hit a free throw and Andrew Jones hit a much needed three. Momentum stayed with the mountaineers shortly as the Eagles responded with a three pointer of their own. A back and forth battle of mid-ranges resulted in a 25-15 score with the Mountaineer's trailing. Berea went cold again letting up ten more points increasing their deficit to 20 points until Andrew Jones ignited the team with a three pointer. Just before halftime, Jae'dyn Gist's steal led to a pass from Trey Minter that traveled down court to Bryce Riley. This gathered some momentum before the break, though Berea College was still down 40-29.

Constant layups and free throws for both teams introduced the second half, as the Eagles pulled ahead by a score of 57-47 prior to Andrew Jones drilling a step back three pointer, making the score 57-50. Marquis Mackey then drills a three pointer of his on decreasing the Eagles lead to 59-53. Mackey returns with an assist to Trey Minter for a three, pulling Berea withing the closest they've been to the lead all night. Berea tie the score at 69 with 5:11 left in the second half. They would not manage to take the lead until 2:41 when Marquis Mackey gets a steal and drives all the way down for a layup. A series of fouls and free throws by both team in the final minute was capped off when Ja'Rel Montgomery hit the final free throw for Berea, leading to a score of 81-79. A last second buzzer beater was denied with the ending score being Berea College 81, Spalding University 80. 

Berea College point leaders were Bryce Riley (19),Trey Minter (17) and Andrew Jones (17). Minter also lead in assists (2) and recorded 5 steals. Jones, notably, went off from behind the arc, hitting 5 of his 6 attempted three pointers.

Berea will be at home for their next game on November 22nd vs DePauw at 5pm.
