Women's Basketball Hits 10 Conseuctive Wins with Victory Over Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON, Ala. - The Berea College Women's basketball team extend their winning streak to 10 games, defeating Huntingdon College 84-69.

The Mountaineers improve their record to 20-1 overall, remain perfect in conference play sitting at 12-0, and achieved their sixth consecutive 20-win season.

The Mountaineers had two players score in the double digits tonight as freshman center LynKaylah James finished with a career-high 23 points and 13 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season and junior guard Aaliyah Hampton had 23 points while converting all 11 of her free throw attempts, five rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore guard Drea Satori added 14 points and two steals in 40 minutes.

Berea started the contest strong by hitting 67 percent of their shorts in the first quarter en route to a 30-12 advantage. However, the Hawks chipped at their deficit at the free throw line in the second quarter, converting nine of their 11 attempts to trail 47-37 going into halftime.

Huntingdon had a little momentum entering the second half as they pulled to within four points with 7:54 left in the third. After a 30-second timeout by the Mountaineers, sophomore guard Jayden Merriweather knocked down a three-pointer to spark the Mountaineers. After a defensive stop sophomore guard Dailyn Spalding drove by her defender for a layup to give Berea a double-digit lead once again.

The Mountaineers will be on the road once again next week Friday, February 10, taking on LaGrange College. Tipoff for that game will be at 5 p.m.
