BEREA, KY – In an exciting finish at Berea College, the Mountaineers secured their second conference win of the season against Bluffton University. Entering the match with uncertainty, freshman Miles Case quickly alleviated some pressure by scoring early, assisted by Tomas Gonzaga and Tobore Takpor from a corner kick. This early goal remained the only score in the first half, as both teams struggled to find the net despite multiple shot attempts.
The second half saw Berea applying pressure, but it was Bluffton who managed to equalize in the 60th minute. Just as thoughts of a potential tie began to flood the minds of the fans, Miles Case struck again, finding Tobore Takpor with less than three minutes remaining. Takpor's shot lifted over the goalkeeper in the box, putting Berea ahead 2-1.
In the final moments of the match, Berea fought to maintain their lead as Bluffton, now down a player, created one last opportunity to equalize off a corner kick. However, goalkeeper Eris Acosta collected the ball and quickly found Roosvins Josil, who was uncovered and positioned well with the opposing goalkeeper out of place. Josil finished the play decisively, scoring with just two seconds left on the clock to finalize the score at 3-1.
The match was closely contested throughout, as reflected in the fouls, with Bluffton committing 11 to Berea's 9. Bluffton also received a late red card, while Berea was issued a yellow card. Berea had a total of 8 shots on goal, achieved 7 saves, and earned 2 corners during the match.
With this crucial victory, Berea will travel to Hanover, IN, to face the Panthers on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
