MEN'S SOCCER WINS A CLOSE BATTLE AGAINST FRANKLIN COLLEGE

BEREA, KY – The Berea College Mountaineers staged a strong comeback, shutting out the Franklin Grizzlies in the second half to secure a 3-2 win at home. The match began with a slow start for Berea, leading to an early goal from Eablo of Franklin College. However, Tabore Takpor quickly answered with a goal, receiving a precise pass from Victor Hernandez in the box, leveling the score at 1-1.

Just before halftime, Eablo scored again, leaving the Mountaineers trailing 2-1 at the break. In the 67th minute, Victor Hernandez converted a free kick, sending it past the goalkeeper to tie the game at 2-2. The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute when Takbor capitalized on another assist from Kushal Phuyel to give the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead. Berea's defense held strong for the final moments of the match, securing the victory.

Berea displayed a strong offensive performance, recording 24 shots with 9 on target. Goalkeeper Eris Acosta made 8 saves throughout the match. The Mountaineers conceded 5 corner kicks while attempting 10 of their own. They committed 10 fouls and received one yellow card.

Victor Hernandez led the team in shots taken and shots on goal, while also tying in assists with Kushal Phuyel. Tabore Takpor was the leader in points with 2 for the match.

Berea will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 9th. The match is set to begin at 7 PM.
