Berea, KY- The Mountaineers face Piedmont University in a conference series matchup. The final scores of the game were 0-6, 3-5 and 2-26. Piedmont makes an easy sweep against the Mountaineers.
Game One: Berea 0, Piedmont 6
Going into the top of the first inning, both teams struggled to put themselves on the board. Both teams came into the game cold, not being able to score during the second inning of the game. Once again both teams were scoreless during the third inning of the game. In the top of the fourth inning Piedmont found their way on the board, scoring two runs. The Mountaineers still couldn't find a way to get on the board. Piedmont added another run to their lead in the top of the fifth inning, leaving the Mountaineers scoreless. Piedmont kept adding on to their lead slowly, scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning. The Mountaineers still haven't found a way to get on the board. Both Piedmont and the Mountaineers were scoreless for the seventh inning of the game. The Mountaineers remained scoreless for the rest of the game, but Piedmont scored one run in the top of the eighth inning and another run in the top of the ninth inning. The final score of the game was 0-6, with Piedmont taking game one of the series.
Game Two: Berea 3, Piedmont 5
Going into the top of the first inning of game two, Piedmont scored one run, leaving the Mountaineers scoreless going into the second inning of the game. Piedmont and the Mountaineers remained scoreless for the second and third inning of the game. In the top of the fourth inning, Piedmont University scored two runs, the Mountaineers were scoreless once again. In the fifth inning of the game, both teams were scoreless going into the sixth inning. Piedmont managed to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Mountaineers answered back also scoring two runs. The Mountaineers scores were from a double by Jayden Junta, scoring Talon Yates, and another double by Peter Torbicki, scoring Jayden Junta. In the seventh inning of the game both teams were scoreless. With a scoreless inning for Piedmont, the Mountaineers scored one run from a double from Andrew Dailey, scoring Talon Yates. Both teams were scoreless in the ninth inning of the game. The final score of the game was 3-5, making Piedmont 2-0 in the series.
Game Three: Berea 2, Piedmont 26
Going into game three, Piedmont came out hot, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Mountaineers did not put a run on the board going into the second inning of the game. In the second inning of the game, both teams were scoreless going into the third inning. At the top of the third inning, Piedmont added another five runs to their lead, once again the Mountaineers were scoreless. The Mountaineers were scoreless up until the seventh inning, but Piedmont scored two runs in the top of the fourth, nine runs in the top of the fifth, and five runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning of the game, Piedmont was scoreless, but the Mountaineers added two runs on the board. Those runs were from a single by Rafael Ramos-Davila, scoring Tyler Palmgren, and Marcelo Manrique reached first on a fielder's choice, scoring Rafael Ramos-Davila. Both teams went scoreless in the top of the eighth inning. The final score of the game was 26-2, with Piedmont University winning the series against the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers next game will be against Maryville College on April 13, 2024.
