Berea, KY - The Berea College men's soccer team fought hard against a physical Midway Eagles team in their season opener but were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 3-0 at home. The visiting Eagles started the scoring with a wild shot near midfield off a throw-in, with the ball bending just beyond the reach of Mountaineer goalie Marcus Bishop. Berea had multiple opportunities to tie the game but were turned away each time by the tough defense of the Eagles, including the excellent play of Midway keeper Connor Vincent. A second Midway goal off a header at the 66:00 minute mark was followed by a third goal with just minutes remaining in the match for the final margin.

For the game the Mountaineers had 15 shots, with 10 being on goal, while the Eagles had 10 shots and seven on goal. Berea also earned five corner kicks. Tobore Takpor took the most shots with three and Tomas Gonzaga and Roosvins Josil added two shots each.
The Mountaineers will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Newcastle, Indiana, to take on the DePauw Tigers on September 1.
