WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL FALL IN TRI-MATCH AT COVANENT

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA - The Mountaineers faced a challenging day as they took on Huntingdon College and Covenant College.

In their first match against Huntingdon, the Mountaineers started strong, winning the first set. However, the Hawks fought back, clinching the next three sets in a nail-biting contest. The second set ended with a close score of 25-23, the third set at 26-24, and the fourth set saw Huntingdon take it 25-18.

Key Performances: Senior Deanna De La Torre led the offense with 19 kills, followed by Sophomore Alexis McCullough with 11 and Freshman Yashira Sol Rodriguez Nazario adding 8 kills. Senior Idymel Ayala Rivera controlled the court with an impressive 42 assists, while Brianna Negron Torres contributed 5 and Deanna De La Torre added 1.

Later in the day, the Mountaineers faced Covenant. They began strong once again, winning the first set 25-20. Unfortunately, the match turned into a fierce battle, as Covenant won the next two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-20. The Mountaineers rallied to take the fourth set, 25-22, but ultimately lost the decisive fifth set 8-15.

Despite the 2-3 loss to Covenant, there were several standout performances. Amelie Cora recorded 19 digs, while Deanna De La Torre added 18 digs. Miranda Wennhold contributed 7 kills, and both Nashaliz Garcia and Jade Broka provided key blocks with 3 and 2, respectively. Additionally, Idymel Ayala Rivera had 16 digs, and Brianna Negron Torres tallied 13 assists and Natalia Colon contributed with 1 ace.

The Mountaineers will next face Maryville College on October 1st, 2024, at 6 PM.
