MEN'S SOCCER WEEK 1 RECAP

Game 1: Berea Falls to Covenant College 2-0
The Berea College men's soccer team opened their 2025 season with a 2-0 defeat at Covenant College on September 2. Covenant scored in the 29th minute on a penalty kick by Jonathan Welsh and added a second goal in the 54th minute through Henry Parker. Berea managed four shots, with two on target, but could not find the net. Goalkeeper Eris Acosta recorded four saves for the Mountaineers, who also earned four corner kicks.
 

Game 2: Berea Shut Out by Sewanee 4-0 On September 3, Berea traveled to Sewanee and fell 4-0.
Sewanee struck twice in the opening five minutes, with Alpha Bah scoring both, including a penalty. Domenic Desmond added a third before halftime, and Luke Manley closed out the scoring in the 89th minute. Berea generated eight shots, three on goal, with strong efforts from Peter Mensah and Ali Ferguson. Acosta faced 27 total shots and made nine saves in goal.

 

Game 3: Berea Drops Road Match to Wilmington (OH) 4-1
Berea wrapped up the week with a 4-1 road loss against Wilmington (OH) on September 6. The Mountaineers took an early lead in the 7th minute when Ombeni Shandera scored off an assist from Will Godby. Wilmington responded quickly with two first-half goals from Kaden Young and Parker Burke, then pulled away in the second half with two goals by Jordan Domoe. Berea recorded nine shots, with two on goal, while goalkeeper Acosta made two saves.
