Berea College Split the Week, Winning at Home and Losing on the Road as the Season Rapidly Comes to an End
Game 1: Mountaineers vs. Earlham
The men's basketball team returned to action this past Wednesday, hosting Earlham College in their final home game of the season. The Mountaineers came out strong from the opening tip, building a commanding 43–17 lead by halftime. They carried that momentum into the second half and never looked back, securing a convincing 77–49 victory.
Defensively, the Mountaineers were dominant, holding Earlham without a two-point field goal until halfway through the second half. Senior Bryce Riley led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds, while junior Jae'dyn Gist closely followed with 18 points and five rebounds. Additional contributions came from Andrew Jones, who finished with nine points and seven rebounds, Zach Hudson with seven points and five rebounds, and Zavian Douglass, who added five points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Game 2: Mountaineers at Anderson
The Mountaineers wrapped up their weekend with a road trip to Anderson, Indiana. The two teams had previously met earlier in the season in Berea, where Anderson's barrage of over 20 three-pointers led to a lopsided victory. This time, however, the Mountaineers delivered a much stronger performance.
The game remained close throughout the first half, but Anderson connected on a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to take an 11-point lead into the break. The second half continued at a fast pace, with both teams trading baskets. Despite their efforts, the Mountaineers struggled to string together multiple defensive stops and were unable to overcome the first-half deficit, ultimately falling 91–77.
Senior Bryce Riley led the Mountaineers with 20 points and seven rebounds, while senior Andrew Jones added 15 points and seven rebounds. Freshmen Zavian Douglass and Zach Hudson also contributed in double figures, each scoring 10 or more points.
The Mountaineers currently hold the 8th seed in the HCAC Men's basketball standings, falling two games behind the 7th seed, Bluffton, and remaining one game ahead of Manchester. Berea will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Ohio to face Mount St. Joseph.
