Track and Field Recap: Mountaineers Open Outdoor Season with Strong Performances
The Berea College Mountaineers women's track and field team opened their outdoor season by traveling to Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond to compete in the EKU Spring Invitational on March 20, 2026. The women's team brought fire to the track, posting several personal records and near personal bests.
Top Performances at EKU Spring Invitational:
- Katerina Kovalevskaya captured 7th place in the Women's 400 meters with a time of 1:01.38.
- Arianna Cooper placed 5th in the Women's Triple Jump with a mark of 10.89 meters.
- Oriana Perez Peña equaled her personal best with a long jump of 4.84 meters.

The next day, the Mountaineers traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, to compete in the Pioneer Invite at Transylvania University, where the team delivered even stronger results and experienced conference competition.
Top Performances at Pioneer Invite:
- Oriana Perez Peña placed 6th in the Women's 100 meters with a time of 13.29 seconds.
- Katerina Kovalevskaya earned 6th place in the Women's 200 meters, finishing in 27.08 seconds.
- Alexzandria Hampton secured 2nd place with a time of 1:03.33, and Savannah Anderson finished 3rd with a time of 1:05.59 in the 400 meters.
- Madison Stonestreet led the Women's 800 meters with a 1st-place finish in 2:24.02, followed by Nika Davenport in 3rd place with a time of 2:32.60.
- Stonestreet also placed 3rd in the Women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:55.16.
- The 4x100 relay team of Jalessa Herman, Hanah Koroma, Alexzandria Hampton, and Oriana Perez Peña captured 2nd place with a time of 52.06 seconds.
- In the 4x400 relay, Savannah Anderson, Nika Davenport, Alexzandria Hampton, and Katerina Kovalevskaya placed 2nd with a time of 4:15.41.
- Arianna Cooper earned a 1st-place finish in the Women's Long Jump with a mark of 4.77 meters.
Overall, the Mountaineers exhibited excellent performances across multiple events and demonstrated their ability to compete under pressure. The team will compete next on March 28, 2026, when they host the Landon Bond Classic in Berea, where they will also celebrate their decorated seniors.
