BASEBALL WEEK 9 RECAP

Mountaineers Compete in Series Against Earlham College

Game 1: Mountaineers at Earlham College

The Mountaineers were back in action this past weekend, traveling to Indiana to take on Earlham College. The Quakers got off to a strong start, scoring one run in each of the first three innings to build a 3–0 lead.

Berea broke through in the top of the sixth when Zach Hudson worked a walk, swiped two bases, and came around to score on a hit by Miguel Serra.

Earlham pulled away late, adding seven runs over the final three innings to secure a 10–1 victory.

The Mountaineers finished with six hits on the day, with contributions from Zach Hudson, Miguel Serra, Sebastian Roman, Corbin Thacker, Landen Griffey, and Michael Mauney. On the mound, Aiden Blaszkowski got the start and delivered a solid outing, going seven innings while allowing five runs—just three of them earned.

Game 2: Mountaineers at Earlham College

The second game of the series on Saturday was one the Mountaineers wish they could get back. Earlham put up 20 runs in the first two innings and never gave Berea a chance to recover. The Mountaineers struggled to generate any type of offense, losing the game 20–0 in just 7 innings.

Berea collected 4 hits in the contest, with contributions coming from Giovanny Ortiz, Sebastian Roman, Eli Thomas, and Landen Griffey. The starting pitcher for the Mountaineers was Gabriel Martinez, who threw 0.2 innings and allowed 9 runs.

Game 3: Mountaineers at Earlham College

The third and final game of the series took place Sunday morning as the Mountaineers looked to bounce back from the previous day. Unfortunately, the game followed a familiar script, with Earlham jumping out to an early lead by scoring five runs over the first three innings.

Berea struggled to find any offensive rhythm, managing just one hit in the contest, which came from Giovanny Ortiz. Earlham continued to build on its lead throughout the game, eventually pulling away for a 10–0 win.

Spencer Blackwell got the start on the mound for the Mountaineers, pitching two innings while allowing six runs.

The Mountaineers will look to regroup this weekend as they return home to host Anderson University on Saturday before traveling to Hanover College on Sunday.
