Berea Men's Soccer Battles to Two Draws in Three-Game Week
BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College men's soccer team fought through a busy three-match slate this past week, battling to a pair of hard-fought draws alongside a tough road setback. The week's results moved the Mountaineers to 2–2–2 overall on the season.
Match 1: Berea 3, Maryville 3
Sept. 9 | Berea, KY
Berea College men's soccer returned home Wednesday night to host Maryville College at the Berea College Soccer Field. The Mountaineers engaged in a back-and-forth thriller with the Scots, as both attacks displayed high-powered offense throughout the night. After 90 minutes of end-to-end action, the match ended in a 3–3 draw.
Match 2: Berry 3, Berea 1
Sept. 11 | Mount Berry, GA
The Mountaineers traveled to Mount Berry, Georgia, on Friday to kick off a two-match road swing against Berry College. Despite falling 3–1 to the Vikings, Berea maintained heavy pressure and finished with a 16–14 advantage in total shots. Daniel Garcia provided the goal for the Mountaineers to lead the attack.
Match 3: Berea 1, Oglethorpe 1
Sept. 13 | Atlanta, GA
Berea closed out the weekend Sunday afternoon in Atlanta against Oglethorpe University. After falling behind 1–0 in the first half, Tobore Takpor found the back of the net in the second half to pull the Mountaineers level. Berea controlled much of the tempo, finishing with advantages in both shots (17–12) and corner kicks (6–3). Goalkeeper Marcus Bishop recorded three saves to anchor the effort and secure the 1–1 road draw.
