Berea Men's Soccer Opens Conference Play on Homecoming
BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College men's soccer team faced a challenging two-match home stretch this past week, dropping a non-conference matchup against Georgetown College before falling to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in its conference opener during Berea's Homecoming weekend.

Match 1: Georgetown 3, Berea 1

Sept. 21 | Berea, KY

Berea College men's soccer returned to the Berea Sports Complex on Monday night to host Georgetown College. Georgetown struck first in the 36th minute on a penalty kick, but the Mountaineers responded quickly as Tobore Takpor answered less than three minutes later, finding the back of the net off an assist from Ombeni Shandera to send the teams into halftime tied 1–1.

Berea stayed competitive throughout the second half, but Georgetown pulled away late with goals in the 81st and 85th minutes to secure the 3–1 win. The Mountaineers generated strong offensive pressure, finishing with 16 total shots (nine on goal) compared to Georgetown's 21 shots (10 on goal).

Match 2: Rose-Hulman 2, Berea 0

Sept. 26 | Berea, KY

The Mountaineers returned home Saturday afternoon to open conference play in front of a Homecoming crowd against Rose-Hulman. The two sides battled through a tightly contested opening period before Rose-Hulman broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Greyson Hovermale scored to give the visitors a 1–0 halftime lead.

Rose-Hulman extended its advantage early in the second half as Hovermale struck again in the 50th minute off an assist from Benjamin Murphy. Berea pressed for a comeback and earned five second-half corner kicks, but was unable to break through against the defensive front as Rose-Hulman sealed the 2–0 shutout victory.
