Women's Volleyball Goes 1–2 in Season-Opening Home Tournament

BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College women's volleyball team officially launched its 2026 season over the weekend, hosting its annual home tournament. The Mountaineers posted a 1–2 record across three hard-fought matches, led by All-Tournament Team selections Nashaliz Garcia and Sydney Makle-Bradley.

Match 1: Berea 3, Brevard 1 

Sept. 4 | Berea, KY

Berea opened the tournament on a high note, claiming a 3–1 victory over Brevard College. The Mountaineers seized momentum early by taking the first two sets before putting the match away in the fourth.

Sydney Makle-Bradley spearheaded the offense with a team-high 12 kills, while the setting tandem of Kiara Arzuaga (21 assists) and Brianna Negron Torres (16 assists) kept the attack fluid. Aryanna Erosa anchored the backline with 16 digs as Berea compiled 46 kills, 12 service aces, and 63 digs overall.
 

Match 2: Maryville 3, Berea 1

Sept. 5 | Berea, KY

In Saturday's opening fixture, Berea dropped a 3–1 battle to Maryville College. Despite the setback, the Mountaineers put on a dominant display at the net, accumulating a massive team block total.

Sydney Makle-Bradley posted 7 blocks at the net, while Nashaliz Garcia and Alaya Scoggins each rejected 6 attacks. Garcia also paced the attack with 7 kills, supported by 4 kills apiece from Genesis Casillas and Kamila Zelaya. Kiara Arzuaga flirted with a double-double, recording 12 assists and 9 digs.
 

Match 3: Spalding 3, Berea 0

Sept. 5 | Berea, KY

The Mountaineers wrapped up tournament play later Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to Spalding University. Nashaliz Garcia once again led the offense with 6 kills, while Sydney Makle-Bradley added 5 and Sol Yashira Rodríguez Nazario chipped in 4 kills and an ace. Aryanna Erosa posted a team-high 9 digs, with Kiara Arzuaga contributing 8 assists and 7 digs.
