Biography

2024 — Freshman season

Madrid's first season was primarily as a relief pitcher.

Berea's 2024 game records show him making appearances throughout the season. In a March 4 game against Asbury, he threw 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

He also appeared against Centre on April 16, throwing one inning, allowing one hit, two runs and one earned run while striking out one.

His most difficult appearance came in Berea's April 7 game against Piedmont, when he was charged with the loss.

Overall, 2024 was essentially an introduction to college baseball, with Madrid working out of the bullpen rather than serving as a regular starter.

2025 — Sophomore season

Madrid's role increased in 2025. Berea's cumulative statistics show:

11 appearances

0 starts

16.0 innings

1–2 record

7.31 ERA

19 hits allowed

15 runs

13 earned runs

12 walks

15 strikeouts

1 save

.339 opponent batting average

His strikeout total increased substantially compared with his earlier relief work, and he earned his first collegiate save.

Berea also used him defensively as a catcher on a very limited basis. The 2025 statistics show two defensive chances, two assists and no errors, giving him a 1.000 fielding percentage.

2026 — Junior season

This was by far Madrid's most significant season at Berea.

The 2026 statistics show him making six appearances and four starts, throwing 25.1 innings. He finished:

1–3

4.62 ERA

1.34 WHIP

25.1 innings

24 hits allowed

15 runs

13 earned runs

10 walks

10 strikeouts

1 complete game

.253 opponent batting average

The improvement in ERA and opponent batting average is especially notable. His ERA dropped from 7.31 in 2025 to 4.62 in 2026, while opposing hitters went from a .339 average against him to .253.

His standout 2026 performance

One of Madrid's best outings came during Week 6, when he threw 8.0 innings and allowed only 3 earned runs, with two strikeouts and one walk. Berea's recap identifies it as his eight-inning performance.

He also had a strong outing during Week 4, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing only one earned run, with one strikeout and three walks.

Those outings help explain why his role expanded from occasional relief work into a starting role.
