Trent Milby became the head coach of the Berea College women's basketball program prior to the 2013-14 season. Now entering his 12th season, he boasts a career record of 492-168.
Under Milby’s leadership, Berea College joined the NCAA Division III and the USA South Athletic Conference in the 2017-18 season. Since joining NCAA DIII, Milby has guided the Lady Mountaineers to four consecutive USA South West Division Regular Season Titles and earned the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019-20. During his tenure in the conference, he has compiled a 57-6 record in regular-season conference play, secured four West Division titles, and won the 2019-20 USA South Athletic Tournament Championship.
Player Achievements & Honors:
- In 2021-22, Aaliyah Hampton earned national recognition as a Third Team All-Region selection from D3 Hoops. She also earned First Team All-Conference, First Team West Division, and All-Tournament Team honors.
- Destiny Combs was named to the All-Tournament Team and First Team West Division, while Bailee Vanover received Second Team West Division honors.
- In 2019-20, Hampton was named D3 Hoops National Freshman of the Year and USA South Player of the Year. Vanover and Combs also earned All-Conference honors that season.
Over his 12 seasons at Berea, Milby has coached six different players to All-Conference honors. He was named USA South Coach of the Year in his first season with the conference (2017-18).
Season Highlights:
- In his first season, Milby led the Lady Mountaineers to their first winning season in four years, finishing 14-13. Two players, Erika Parks and Johnesha Warren, earned KIAC all-conference honors.
- His second season saw the team reach the USCAA National Championship game, finishing 17-10, with Johnesha Warren earning First Team All-American honors and two freshmen (Adriana Williams and Alexus Calhoun) earning USCAA All-American Honorable Mention.
- In the 2018-19 season, Berea finished 15-12, with Adriana Williams earning first-team All-American honors and Bethanie Williams receiving honorable mention in the USCAA.
- The 2016-17 season resulted in a runner-up finish at the USCAA National Championship. Despite injuries to four of his five starting players, Milby led the team to a 21-7 record — including a 13-game winning streak, one of the longest in program history. He was named USCAA Coach of the Year for the second time and guided four players to national awards.
Milby has served on the USCAA National Ranking and All-American Committees for three seasons.
Previous Coaching Experience:
Before Berea, Milby spent seven seasons as head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Marion County High School, where he amassed a 208-36 record. His final season was undefeated at 39-0, culminating in a state championship and a #4 national ranking by USA Today. He was honored as the 2013 Naismith National Women’s Coach of the Year.
Additional Contributions:
Milby co-founded Kentucky Premier, an elite Nike-sponsored AAU organization that competes on the EYBL circuit. Over 11 years, he has helped place over 250 Kentucky Premier athletes in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA programs.

GOLF
Trent Milby is the Director of Operations for Berea College athletics. He previously served as the head coach of the men's golf program from 2016 through the fall season of 2023.
Taking over after the passing of Coach Thomas Harkleroad in 2014, Milby made an immediate impact on the men's golf program. Under his leadership, the Mountaineers steadily improved each year in stroke average and GolfStat rankings. Although new to coaching golfers, Milby demonstrated exceptional coaching talent, developing a National Champion, All-Americans, and earning recognition as a National Coach of the Year in golf.
Highlights as a coach include:
- Guiding the team to a USCAA National Golf Tournament appearance and winning the Bryan Invitational in his inaugural season.
- Achieving the program’s first top-10 finish at the National Tournament with an 8th-place finish in his second season. Mentored Sophomore Kevin Kim to a First Team All-American honor and 5th-place individual finish at Nationals, while lowering the team stroke average from 327.2 to 319.4. These accomplishments earned him USCAA National Golf Coach of the Year.
- Leading the team to its third consecutive USCAA National Tournament appearance in his third season, with a remarkable 4th-place finish — the 20th best score in USCAA history. Kevin Kim captured the individual title, earning USCAA First Team All-American honors and finishing in the top 10 nationally with a 72.1 stroke average.
Education & Personal Life:
Milby earned his undergraduate degree in K-12 Physical Education from Lindsey Wilson College in 1999, followed by a master's degree in Physical Education and Rank 1 certification from Western Kentucky University in 2005. He taught in public schools for 14 years before joining Berea College. He resides in Berea with his fiancée, Kiyonta, and their dogs, Sophie and Mia.
