Koty Riley, originally from Tollesboro, Kentucky, attended Lewis County High School before joining Berea College as a member of Coach Hemenway’s first recruiting class in 2011. He played two seasons for the Mountaineers, with his playing career cut short due to shoulder injuries. In the 2011-12 season, Koty appeared in 26 games, starting 15, and averaged 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. As a sophomore in 2012-13, he started all 31 games, boosting his averages to 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He contributed significantly to the team’s 15-16 record, scoring in double figures 17 times, including a career-high 18 points in the Homecoming victory over Bryan College.
After graduating from Berea College in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Koty began his career in admissions. He was responsible for developing and maintaining the College’s connections within his designated recruitment territories—Eastern Kentucky, West Virginia, and Western Virginia—which involved engaging with local schools, communities, and organizations, as well as counseling prospective students and their families about their college options and how Berea might fit into their future plans. He also completed a Master’s Degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education from Eastern Kentucky University.
Currently, Koty is the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Student Success, overseeing key areas to support student-athletes' academic and personal achievements, as well as managing athletic department operations.
Koty and his wife, Tessa, reside in Berea with their three children—Blakely, London, and Lincoln.
