Shead's Leads Women's Basketball to Victory in Home Opener

Box Score

After six regular season contests and one exhibition game on the road, the women's basketball team finally made their way home to the friendly confines of the Seabury Center tonight to take the Colonels of Centre College (2-3).

The Mountaineers (3-4) used a combination of full court presses and back court pressure to make the Colonels uncomfortable the entire night.  They rarely got a shot off with less than 10 seconds remaining on the shot clock or a shot without contest.  That defensive pressure resulted in 25 Centre turnovers and 10 steals including six by guard Adriana Williams.

Another big factor in Berea's success was bench play.  Rayveen Shead and Williams both gave the Blue Crew a tremendous boost.  Williams' defense was stifiling and Shead was unstoppable scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  The 17 points came from 6-12 shooting from the floor and 5-7 from the charity stripe.

Williams went 6-10 from the field and collected 13 points for the night, while BC's leading scorer this season, Johnesha Warren, spent her night dishing the ball, instead of shooting as she was the team's assist leader with five.

The ladies will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Asbury to participate in the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic hosted by Asbury University.  They will take on Kentucky Christian at 2:00 pm on Friday.  Then tangle with the hosts on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
