Montgomery, AL- The women's basketball team traveled to Montgomery to take on the Huntingdon Hawks, Monday afternoon. The Mountaineers won the battle against their conference opponent with a score of 56-49. The win brings the record of the Mountaineers to 6-2, with an impressive conference record of 3-0.

The Mountaineers spun their tires at the start, but only trailed the Hawks 16-15 by the quarters end. The Mountaineers then proceeded to flex their muscles as the Mountaineers outscored the Hawks 23-11 in the 2nd quarter. At the half, Berea led Huntingdon 38-27.

The Mountaineers continued the pressure through the third quarter. Briana Lanham led the team in scoring with 12 points, and the 3rd quarter ended with the Mountaineers leading 45-35. The 4th quarter continued with Mountaineer success stifling the Hawk's offense; Berea pushed the lead with 6 straight points before the Hawks could get any points up on the board. Huntingdon responded with a run, but the Mountaineers quickly responded and adjusted to the Hawks defensive matchups.  The Mountaineers defeated the Hawks 56-49.

Despite shooting 15% from the 3 point line, and committing 15 turnovers, the Mountaineers were able to rely on their tough defense and hold Huntingdon to 16/58 from the field (27%). Add in 8 more rebounds to win the rebound battle (48-40), and 19 second chance points, the victory was a testament to the squad's heart and grit. Even when the shoots were not going in, Berea found a way to get the job done; come March, this effort will not be forgotten.

The Mountaineers will look to improve upon their shooting performance, while continuing the defensive intensity. They will play Covenant College, Saturday at 4:00 in part of a home, men's and women's, double-header at the Seabury Center.
