LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Berea College women's track and field team opened their 2021-22 season today at the Tiger Paw Classic in Louisville, Ky.
The Mountaineers had 13 top-25 placements across their events.
The highest placement on the day for the Mountaineers was freshman
Jakeisha Lewis covering 4.82 meters to grab a ninth-place finish in the long jump. Sister freshman
Jerneisha Lewis placed 18th in the same event with 4.32 meters.
Freshman
Kymiah Blair had a pair of top-20 placements for Berea, finishing with a time of twenty-seven point forty-one seconds to secure 16th place in the 200-meter dash and 8.35 seconds to finish 20th in the 60-meter dash.
In the 600-meter dash, freshman
Rebekah Joyal and freshman
Liberte Mack led the way for the Mountaineers, placing 11th and 12th with times of 1:56.98 and 1:59.58, respectively. The women also ran in the 1000-meter dash as Mack grabbed 13th (3:34.19) and Joyal placed 17th (3:39.89).
Freshman
Elise Kemp secured 14th place in the shot put with 8.76 meters, while freshman
Tera Williams nabbed 25th (7.73 meters), freshman
Alyssa Bell placed 26th (7.60 meters), freshman
Kyonna Ross finished 28th (7.22 meters), freshman
Sarah Keown grabbed 31st (6.70 meters), and freshman
Jessalyn Poynter placed 33rd (6.41 meters).
In the weight throw, Kemp recorded 9.93 meters for 17th place and Ross threw 7.73 meters for 24th.
The four-by-400-meter relay team made of sophomore
Jerneisha Lewis, Blair, Mack, and Joyal placed sixth with 4:33.56 seconds, and the team consisting of sophomore
Hannah Hisle, freshman
Brianna Dowell,
Jakeisha Lewis, and sophomore
Anita Chukwu finished in eighth (4:49.36).
The Berea College women's track and field team continues their season tomorrow in the Steemer Showcase in Springfield, Ohio.
