ATLANTA, GA. – The newly-formed Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), which will begin play during the upcoming 2022-23 academic year, officially released its new logos earlier today. The release of the conference's marks is the first step of an extensive brand introduction and rollout that will include the upcoming launch of the conference's website later this month.
Conference leadership consisting of school presidents and athletic directors worked in conjunction with New Jersey-based Skye Design Studios (SDS), a national leader in sport branding, to develop the conference's new marks. In addition to a primary and secondary or 'icon' logo, the conference also announced it has created school-specific icon marks for each member institution to be used by each school as they see fit.
Dr. Bryan Coker, the President of Maryville College, and Chair of the CCS Presidents' Council, as well as an important voice on the branding effort, shared his thoughts on the conference's new marks. "This logo release is an important step, as we officially introduce and launch the Collegiate Conference of the South. A collaborative process with extensive stakeholder input led to the logo's development, and we are exceptionally grateful for the expertise of Skye Design Studios."
Primary Mark
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
"From the moment we came up with and settled upon our name, literally the next thing we began was the creation of our conference logo," said CCS Acting Commissioner Kurt Patberg. "We wanted marks that represented us, who we were, and spoke to the area of the country we represent."
"This project was all about creating something bold and energetic that aligned with the exciting ambitions of the conference," said SDS Founder Skye Dillon. "A special thank you to the entire membership whose valuable input throughout the process helped inspire the final identity."
As Patberg mentioned, the conference was looking for bold, unique colors that represented the geographical area the conference is located in. "We wanted a logo and colors that were unique to us, that were vibrant, and that represented the south. I think we accomplished that goal."

Secondary Mark
Today's release of the conference marks serves as an unofficial kickoff announcement for the conference, which will officially begin competing this fall.
The Conference consists of nine members: Agnes Scott College, Belhaven University, Berea College, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College. The CCS will be sponsoring 14 sports and will be crowning a conference champion in each of them.
