Louisville, KY - Berea College Track and Field start their season where they left off last year, breaking records. In the Commonwealth Opener in Louisville,
Kymiah Blair,
Elise Kemp, Larry Branch and
Madison Stonestreet all rewrote history in multiple events. Not only were records broken, but new personal records set.
Long Jump:
Jerneisha Lewis and
Jakeisha Lewis begin their jumps campaign with marks of 4.44m and 4.32m respectively. For the men, a trio of jumpers competed. Larry Branch (6.25m) led his teammates Caleb Wilson (5.44m) and DeMarcus Smith (5.27m).
High Jump:
DeMarcus Smith had a mark of 1.64m in high jump giving him a tenth-place finish.
Weight Throw:
Elise Kemp caught fire, throwing a school record of 12.13m in the weight throw. Right behind her was
Kyonna Ross who threw a personal best of 10.04m.
Shot Put:
Elise Kemp also pulled out a solid throw of 9.14m in her third attempt in the shot put.
60m:
Kymiah Blair who ran a personal best and school record of 7.86. Newcomer,
Jaleesa Herman and Senior,
Anita Chukwu ran personal best in the 60m dash with times of 8.18 and 8.46.
Freshman Ja'Dyn Maclin lead the Men in the 60m dash with a time of 7.10. This performance was good enough for second in the school history. Right behind him, was teammate
Calib Collier-Smith who ran a 7.20. This performance was good enough for fourth all time. Caleb Wilson and Narquise Sneed finished behind them with times of 7.56 and 7.68.
200m:
Calib Collier-Smith and Narquise Sneed also ran in the 200m and finished with times of 23.58 and 25.65. Women,
Jerneisha Lewis and
Anita Chukwu ran times of 28.55 and 28.89
300m:
Jakeisha Lewis, with a time of 46.86 is now second all time in school history only behind
Kymiah Blair who ran a time of 41.59 in the 300m.
Larry Branch also now has the school record in the men's 300m as he ran a time of 37.18. Teammate Robert Russell, with his time of 40.16 is now third in school history.
400m
Quinncey Gibson tackled the indoor 400m, with a time of 56.56, he finds himself just outside the top ten all time.
600m:
Liberte Mack and
Kristin Fischli ran their hearts out and were rewarded with third and second all-time placements in Berea College 600m history. Fischli ran a time of 1:44.78 and Mack followed close behind with a time of 1:48.95.
3000m:
Carah Anteck and Madison
Stonestreet fought mightily in the 3000m.
Stonestreet collected fourth overall with a new school record of 10:21.31.
Anteck is now seventh overall with her performance of 11:13.63.
