Berea's
LynKaylah James backs down the post to score the games first points after a
Belhaven miss.
Atyia Moss would go down a pull up for a deep three pointer to increase their lead to 5-1. Belhaven would fight to pull within one but
Madison Howell, after a great semifinal game, would shoot a contested three point in order to push Berea to 12-8. Moss would end the quarter with a three-point basket behind
Nevaeh Bates free throws. The score at the end of the first would be 27-16.
Belhaven would score quick to start the second quarter, but
Drea Satori would isolate and draw an and-one in the paint. The Mountaineers would continue to control the game as they would score 11 points to Belhaven's 3 following the foul on Satori. The half would end with a score of 44-24.
James would put in a hook shot and two free throws to start the second half. This would be followed by an open three point from
Drea Satori and another driving layup with a free throw attached. Belhaven would score on a couple free throws to end the third quarter. But Satori would put an end to all hopes of a comeback after a she pulled up a deep three pointer to put the final nail in the coffin to push to score to 64-40. From there
Jayden Merriweather, Bates, and
Ashyia Maddickes would all add to the score.
The Mountaineers would end the game shooting 50% from field goals, 40% form beyond the arc, and 91% from the free throw line. With the lead for 38 minutes and their largest lead being 30 points, it was far from a close game.
Atyia Moss and
LynKaylah James would both score 14 points while
Drea Satori would put up 23 points. James would come down with 10 rebounds and
Madison Howell would come down with four of her own to contribute to Berea's total of 34 rebounds. Senior
Dailyn Spalding and Satori would share the wealth with 3 assist each. Merriweather would also put 3 steals on the board.
The Mountaineers will find out Monday if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA DIII Tournament.Â
