Brevard, NC – Baseball split the doubleheader matchup this Sunday vs Brevard University. The Mountaineers lost the first game 8-9, then won the second game 11-5.
Game One: Berea - 8 Brevard - 9
After a scoreless 1st inning, the bats got hot for the Mountaineers in the top of the 2nd. Jay Junta scored the first run of the inning crossing home plate after
Marcelo Manrique hit a double to left field. Marcelo then proceeds to score after
Ricardo Serra hits an RBI-Single to left field.
Ricardo Serra scored the third run of the inning thanks to
Jay Nunez RBI-Single to right field. The final run of the inning was scored by
Justin Brown off of a
Talon Yates RBI-Single to left. Then after a scoreless 3rd inning, Berea kept the runs coming by scoring two more in the top of the 4th.
Ricardo Serra scored his second run of the game from a
Talon Yates RBI-Single to left field. Following that,
Jay Nunez scored off an RBI hit by
Fredison Rivera.
After four innings of play the score was Berea 6, Brevard 0 going into the top of the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th, Brevard scored two runs. Then in the bottom of the 6th, Brevard scored six more runs making the score Berea 6, Brevard 8 going into the 7th inning. After a scoreless 7th inning, Berea scored 2 runs tying the game up. The first run came from an RBI hit by
Fredison Rivera allowing
Jay Nunez to score. Then
Talon Yates scored from a SAC fly RBI to center field by
AJ Wylie. In the bottom of the 9th inning, Brevard scored the game winning run ending the game. The final score was Berea 8, Brevard 9.
Game Two: Berea - 11 Brevard - 5
In the second game of the doubleheader, the first run was not scored until the 3rd inning. Brevard scored the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Then in the top of the 4th inning, Berea ties the game, scoring a run as well.

Fredison Rivera scored the second run of the ballgame by an RBI-Single by
Giovanny Ortiz in the top of the 5th inning. Brevard scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the score 2-3 going into the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th, Berea tied the game with
Michael Vazquez crossing the plate.
Going into the top of the 7th, the score is all tied up 3-3. In the top of the 7th, that is when the bats got hot for Berea, with the Mountaineers scoring 5 runs.
Ricardo Serra scored off a wild pitch. Following that,
Giovanny Ortiz scored from a sacrifice fly RBI by
Ty Palmgren.
Zion Clay and
Justin Brown both scored off a two RBI-Double from
Michael Vazquez. The final run of the inning was scored by
Michael Vazquez from an RBI-Single by
Fredison Rivera. Brevard scored two more runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Then in the top of the 8th inning, Berea scored two more runs.

Justin Brown and
Ricardo Serra to score.

Baseball is back in action Tuesday in a solo contest against Centre College. The game is at home, at the Berea College Sports Complex. The first pitch is expected to be thrown at 6p.m Tuesday, March 12th.
