Berea, KY - The Mountaineers win their first game of the season with a series split Wednesday night. They lost the first game with a score of 3-9, then won the second with a score of 8-4.
 
Game One: Grace Christian -9, Berea - 3
 
After a scoreless 1st inning of play, Grace Christian gets on the board first, scoring three runs in the 2nd inning. Grace Christian goes on to score three more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. After no runs in the 4th inning from either team, Grace Christian scored one more run in the top of the 5th. Berea would then answer back with three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Olivia Spare scored the first run thanks to an RBI-Double by Maya Meads. Maggie Dickson would cross the plate next by an RBI-Single by Aubrey Sowders. The final run of the inning was scored by Maya Meads, after Mackenzie Howell hit an RBI-Single.
 
After 5 innings of play the score is Grace Christian 7, Berea 3. Grace Christian would then proceed to score the final two runs of the ballgame in the top of the 6th inning. Making your final score Grace Christian 9 and Berea 3.
 
Game Two: Grace Christian - 4, Berea - 8
 
The Mountaineers start off hot with three runs being scored in the 1st inning. Aubrey Sowders hits a monster three run shot, over the fence allowing Maya Meads and Maggie Dickson to score as well. Grace Christian would then score one run in the 2nd inning to close the lead. Berea would answer back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Mackenzie Howell scored off an RBI-Single by Olivia Spare. Julie Santana would score off an error in the field. Baylie Dixon and Jailyn would also cross home plate to make the score after 3 innings of play, Grace Christian 1, Berea 7.
 
Going into the top of the 4th inning, Grace Christian would score one more run. Then later in the bottom of that same inning, Mackenzie Howell would make it home to add on to the Mountaineers lead. In the top of the 7th inning, Grace Christian would come on to score two more runs, but would not be enough as Berea would win the game with a final score of 4-8.
 
The Berea Softball team will be back in action Saturday, March 9th, in a doubleheader matchup against Miami University (Hamilton). This will take place at home at the Berea College Sports Complex. The first pitch is expected to be thrown at 12:00PM.
