Women's Soccer Battles Through Tough Two-Match Stretch

BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College women's soccer team faced a pair of hard-fought tests this week, falling on the road to Union Commonwealth University on Wednesday before dropping a weekend contest at home to Covenant College.

Match 1: Union Commonwealth 4, Berea 1 Sept. 9 | Barbourville, KY

Berea traveled to Union Commonwealth University on Wednesday night looking to bounce back from its season opener. The Mountaineers faced adversity early after receiving a red card in the 15th minute, forcing Berea to play the remainder of the match a player down. Union took advantage, scoring in the 20th minute to take a 1–0 lead.

Berea continued to battle and found an answer in the 33rd minute when Jaelynn Kemper netted her first goal of the season to tie the match at 1–1. The Mountaineers held the Bulldogs even heading into halftime despite heavy offensive pressure. However, Union took control in the second half, scoring goals in the 65th, 74th, and 89th minutes to pull away for the 4–1 victory. Goalkeeper LaDeja Driver anchored the defense with a standout 19-save performance under constant pressure.

Match 2: Covenant College 8, Berea 0

Sept. 12 | Berea, KY

The Mountaineers returned home Saturday afternoon to host Covenant College at the Berea College Soccer Field. Covenant's attack set the tone early, keeping pressure on the Berea backline and securing an 8–0 result. The loss moved Berea to 0–3–0 on the season.
