Mountaineers Fire Off 2–1 Start to 2026 Campaign

BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College men's soccer team kicked off its 2026 season with a strong start, posting a 2–1 record across three matches during opening week. The Mountaineers highlighted the slate with a dominant offensive outburst and a gritty road shutout victory.

Match 1: Berea 8, Kentucky Christian 2

Sept. 1 | Berea, KY

Berea opened the season in emphatic fashion, overwhelming Kentucky Christian University in an 8–2 victory at home. The Mountaineers controlled the tempo from kickoff, outshooting the Knights 41–4 with 20 shots on target.

Ramesh Gorantla led the charge with a hat trick and an assist, while Tobore Takpor delivered an all-around performance with two goals and three assists. Dody Kenas, Ombeni Shandera, and Luckymore Ndaishimiye each added goals to complete the dominant home opener.
 

Match 2: Centre 4, Berea 0

Sept. 5 | Berea, KY

The Mountaineers faced a tough test in their second match, falling 4–0 to Centre College. The Colonels built a 2–0 advantage heading into halftime before adding two insurance goals in the second half. Centre's defense kept Berea's attack contained throughout the 90 minutes.
 

Match 3: Berea 1, Spalding 0

Sept. 6 | Louisville, KY

Berea responded right away on the road, grinding out a 1–0 shutout against Spalding University. Tobore Takpor provided the match-winner with a crucial strike, while the Berea backline held firm to deny Spalding and lock up the team's second win of the season.
