Mountaineers Take Second Place in CCS Conference Championship

JACKSON, Miss. – The Berea Mountaineers traveled to Belhaven University to compete in the first Collegiate Conference of the South Track & Field Championships. With the conclusion of the CCS Outdoor Championship, both the men's and women's teams secured second place finishes. The men's team secured the finish with a team score of 196 points, while the women's team finished with a team score of 225 points.

For the meet, the Mountaineers earned 33 medals, seven on Thursday and an additional twenty-six on Friday. Noah Reasoner (10:15.90) taking gold in the men's 3000mSC. Two 10k runners secured the final two gold medals of Day 1. Carah Anteck (42:22.54) took gold in the women's 10k and Robert Immell (32:37.26) followed suit.

Heading into day two, the Mountaineers advanced 13 runners from prelims on the men's side. On the women's side, Berea saw 17 runners advancing to finals.

Day two featured a strong day from the Mountaineers. Berea earned 6 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 8 bronze medals lead by Kymiah Blair (100m, 200m, 4x400m Relay), Christoff Mendy (400m, 4x400m Relay) and Robert Immell (5k) all taking gold.

Kymiah Blair started the day with a school record in the 400m, running a time of 56.67 and earning silver. Christoff Mendy earned the first gold of the day leading a Mountaineer sweep in the men's 400m.

Kymiah Blair followed up the 400m, by winning the 100m with a personal record of 12.33. Not to forget her favorite event, Blair then ran a school record of 24.71 in the 200m. Robert Immell ended the individual golds for the day with a win in the men's 5,000m.

The 4x4 teams ended the meet with gold on both sides. The team of Ozor, Arreola, Branch and Mendy ran season best time of 3:20.68 and the 2nd fastest in school history. The women's 4x4 team of Jakeisha Lewis, Kymiah Blair, Kristin Fischli and Liberte Mack ran a time of 3:59.10, shattering the previous school record by over 8 seconds and taking gold.
 
Thursday Finals Recap:
High Jump
Women- The duo of Alyssa Tittsworth and Liz Stokes started the day. The first medal of the meet came via Tittsworth who earned silver with a mark of 1.45m/4'9". Tittsworth cleared every mark on first attempt until it was her and one other jumper remaining. Stokes cleared 1.25m/4'1.25" to take 8th.
Men- Larry Branch cleared 1.75m/5'8.75" to take 4th on the day. Connor Cooper and DeMarcus Smith cleared 1.70m/5'7" to take 5th and 7th.

Long Jump
Women- Jakeisha Lewis added her first medal of the meet with a 2nd place finish. Lewis jumped to a personal record of 4.92m/16'1.75". Jerneisha Lewis (4.70m/15'5") and Hannah Hisle (4.66m/15'3.5") finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Men- Four Mountaineer men starred in the men's long jump. Larry Branch jumped an outdoor personal record 6.69m/21'11.5" to take silver and grab his first medal of the meet. Justin Warbington jumped 6.53m/21'5.25", Caleb Wilson jumped 6.39m/20'11.75", and Robert Russell jumped 6.28m/20'7.25" to take 5th, 7th, and 8th respectively.

Hammer Throw
Women- Lilly Stears threw a personal record of 35.45m/116'4" to take 8th.

Steeplechase
Women- Diana Angel took silver it a gutsy race in the steeplechase with a time 15:01.26
Men- Noah Reasoner ran away with gold with a time 10:15.90, winning by more than 25 seconds over 2nd place.

Javelin
Women- Alyssa Bell finished 4th with a throw of 22.43m/73'7" and Kyonna Ross finished 8th a mark of 64'6".
Men- DeMarcus Smith took 5th with a throw of 37.75m/123'10" and Anthony Boggs took 7th with a personal best throw of 32.46m/106'6".

10,000m
Women- Carah Anteck kept her strong freshmen year going by winning the women's 10k. Anteck ran a time of 42:22.54. Leslie Estrada and Brooke Donley finished 6th and 7th respectively with a time of 48:05.05 and 48:45.08.
Men- Robert Immell grabbed his first gold of the meet with a time of 32:37.26 and Noah Reasoner finished 5th with a time of 35:45.88.
 
Friday Finals Recap:
Shot Put
Women- Lilly Stears finished in 4th with a personal record of 10.60m/34'9.5". Elise Kemp took 5th place with a throw of 9.42m/30'11" to finish the scoring.
Men- Immanuel Darling (8.95m/29'4.5") and Josh Carr (7.89m/25'10.75") finished in 10th and 12th place.

Discus
Women- Lilly Stears finished in 5th with a personal record of 32.02m/105'1".
Men- Immanuel Darling threw a personal best of 26.60m/87'3" to finish in 6th place.

Pole Vault
Women- Angel Patterson cleared a personal record of 2.30m/7'6.5" to secure silver.

Triple Jump
Women- Jakeisha Lewis secured 2nd place with a personal record of 10.63m/34'10.5".
Men- Four Mountaineers secured four of the top five finishes in men's triple jump. Larry Branch (13.39m/43'11.25") and Caleb Wilson (13.09m/42'11.5") to secure silver and bronze. Robert Russell (12.92m/42'4.75") and David Emeka-Ibe (12.56m/41'2.5") finished in 4th and 5th place.

4x100
Women- The team of Jakeisha Lewis, Angel Patterson, Anita Chukwu and Hannah Hisle secured silver with a time of 51.25.
Men- The team of Larry Branch, Cameron Bridgeman, David Emeka-Ibe, and Calib Collier-Smith ran a season best time of 42.94 to secure silver.

1500m
Women- Two Mountaineers finished in the top three. Madison Stonestreet earned silver with a personal best of 4:50.09, running the second fastest women's 1500m in school history. Carah Anteck followed behind and secured bronze with a personal best time of 5:06.40.
Men- Robert Immell followed up the 10k with a personal best in the 1500m. Immell (4:05.60) ran a personal best and secured 4th.

100m Hurdles
Women- Four Mountaineers scored in the women's hurdles. Jerneisha Lewis earned silver with a season best time of 17.16. Jakeisha Lewis took bronze with a time of 17.27. Alyssa Tittsworth (18.97) and Angel Patterson (26.13) finished 7th and 8th.

110m Hurdles
Men- Robert Russell (15.98) started his day with a personal best and securing silver. Quinncey Gibson took 5th place with a time of 18.17.

400m
Women- Three Mountaineers kept the momentum going. Kymiah Blair took silver with a school record time of 56.67. Kristin Fischli (1:00.16) ran a personal best to take 4th and Jakeisha Lewis (1:04.72) took 7th.
Men- 1-2-3-4 is what the Mountaineer men accomplished. Christoff Mendy earned the first gold of the day leading a Mountaineer sweep in the men's 400m. Mendy (49.31), Larry Branch (50.49), JC Ozor (50.82) and Alexis Arreola (50.87) took 1st through 4th.
 
100m
Women- Kymiah Blair followed her podium finish with a gold place finish in the women's 100m running a personal record of 12.33 and the second fastest time in school history. Hannah Hisle (13.34), Anita Chukwu (13.51) and Angel Patterson (13.78) took 4th, 7th, and 8th all while running their personal best marks.
Men- Calib Collier-Smith saved his best 100m for the final. Collier-Smith ran 10.98 to take bronze in the men's 100m. David Emeka-Ibe took 5th place with a personal best of 11.21.

800m
Women- The four Mountaineer women took four of the top 6 spots. Kristin Fischli (2:22.03) earned silver while setting a new personal record. Liberte Mack (2:26.26) and Madison Stonestreet (2:28.32) followed closely behind for a bronze and 4th place finish. Brianna Dowell (2:35.10) finished the scoring with a 6th place finish.
Men- Alexis Arreola followed up his 400m finish with a personal best time of 1:57.53, in the men's 800m. That time secured 4th place for him.

400m Hurdles
Women- Jakeisha Lewis earned bronze with a personal record of 1:10.22, followed closely behind by her sister Jerneisha Lewis (1:13.74) who took 4th. Alyssa Tittsworth earned 7th with a time of 1:19.26.
Men- Robert Russell saved his best for last. Running a new personal record of 55.73, Russell won the event by over 2 seconds. Quinncey Gibson took 5th place with a time of 1:00.34.

200m
Women- Kymiah Blair continued to find the podium and earned her second gold of the day with a school record time of 24.71. Anita Chukwu finished her day with a personal record of 27.65 and a 5th place finish.
Men- Christoff Mendy secured his second podium finish running a personal record of 22.39 to take bronze. Calib Collier-Smith finished closely behind the senior with a time of 22.41 to take 4th place.

5,000m
Women- Carah Anteck (19:32.23) secured silver and Summer Bahr (21:10.56) took 7th place. Leslie Estrada (22:09.23) took 9th place.
Men- Robert Immell (15:36.39) followed up his gold in the men's 10k with another gold. Noah Reasoner finished 9th with a time of 16:59.26.

4x400m Relay
Women- The Mountaineers had one more gold in them. The women's 4x4 team of Jakeisha Lewis, Kymiah Blair, Kristin Fischli and Liberte Mack ran a time of 3:59.10, shattering the previous school record by over 8 seconds and taking gold.
Men- The team of JC Ozor, Alexis Arreola, Larry Branch and Christoff Mendy ran season best time of 3:20.68 and the 2nd fastest in school history, securing the final gold of the meet.

Thursday Prelims Recap:
400m
Women- Three Mountaineers advanced to the women's final Friday. Kymiah Blair took first in her heat with a time of 59.24 to qualify for the 400m finals on Friday. Kristin Fischli finished 2nd in heat to qualify on time. Jakeisha Lewis ran 1:03.06 to take 3rd in her heat to qualify for the final.
Men- All four Mountaineers qualify for the final on Friday. Christoff Mendy ran the top time with a mark of 51.18. Jeffrey Ozor (52.08), Alexis Arreola (52.77) and Larry Branch (52.91) finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the prelims to qualify for the final.

100m
Women- All for Berea women earned their way to the 100m final on Friday. Kymiah Blair (12.56), Anita Chukwu (13.29), Hannah Hisle (13.41) and Angel Patterson (13.75)
Men- Calib Collier-Smith ran a 11.05 and David Emeka-Ibe 11.09 to qualify for the men's 100m final on Friday.

400mh
Men- Robert Russell (1:00.07) and Quinncey Gibson (1:02.31) both qualified for the men's 400mh final on Friday.

800m
Women- Mountaineer women showed a strong showing. In the first heat, Kristin Fischli (2:29.06), Madison Stonestreet (2:29.16) and Liberte Mack (2:31.16) finished 1-2-3 to all qualify for the final on Friday. Brianna Dowell took 2nd in her heat with a personal record of 2:32.68 to qualify for the final.
Men- Alexis Arreola ran 2:05.66 to take 6th overall in the prelims to qualify for the final.

200m
Women- Kymiah Blair cruised to a first-place finish in the 200m prelims (24.94), securing her spot in the finals. Anita Chukwu (27.42) took 6th overall in the prelims to qualify for the final Friday.
Men- Christoff Mendy (22.36) and Calib Collier-Smith (22.49) both qualified for the 200m final on Friday, taking 6th and 7th overall.
