DANVILLE, KY- Despite fierce winds, Mountaineers fight for new personal best and seasons best at the 56th annual Centre Invitational.
Beginning with the short sprints for the women, freshman
Ashyia Maddickes secured fourth in the 100m and the 200m discipline while fellow freshman
Katerina Kovalevskaya placed 8th in the 200 and 5th in the 400m. Katerina lowered her 400m best by 2 seconds to a 1:04.08. Narqiuse Sneed (11.75) continues to improve as he secured a new seasons best in the 100m. Senior Cristoff Mendy (22.52) was able to capture 8th in the mens 200.
In the 400mh,
Jerneisha Lewis placed fourth overall with a time of 1:12.08. In the women's 800, both Joyeuse Muhorakeye (2:23.02) and
Kristin Fischli (2:24.92) battled for seasons best in a competitive race. Jonathan Bolanos also raced hard and placed 9th with a time of 2:00.47 in the mens 800m. In the 1500,
Madison Stonestreet (4:47.68) smashed yet another school record as she broke a record that stood since1982. Andrew Brathcer made his return to the track with a 5000m effort of 18:17.68 to capture 7th.
In the field events,
Ashyia Maddickes also took second overall in the women's high jump with a final height of 1.50m.
Angel Patterson finished the day with a final height of 2.30m in the women's pole vault.
Jakeisha Lewis found success on the board and stretched out to a 10.46m triple jump for a new season best. Demarcus Smith put in work as he competed in mens long jump, mens high jump and place fourth in the mens javelin (44.98m).
Next week, Berea is scheduled to compete back at home for the Landon Bond Classic.
